The Objective

The goal for this project was to create a still life featuring a drink. I love coffee, especially matcha, so I was inspired to create a drink I enjoy so much! I enjoyed set dressing this scene with different objects used to make a matcha, including specks of leftover matcha powder on the spoon. I also enjoyed learning about the material properties of a matcha since it was my first time making materials for a drink. All of the materials were created procedurally by me in Houdini. The metal, cloth, and wood materials were all created with VEX. I modeled everything except the spoon and the matcha whisk. I made the cloth with Vellum Cloth. I learned a lot about VEX, Vellum, and procedural material creation. This was my first time using Denoise AI in Houdini and it was really useful.

VEX Shader Showcase

This video goes through the controls of all three shaders and shows the different ways they can be used!

Moodboard & References

Early on, I found references for layouts, lighting, props, and more. I ended up only referencing a few of the images for my final render, but keeping this available while I worked helped me maintain the mood and feeling of the project I was looking to achieve.

Layout & Material Iterations

These are some of the different ideas I had for the layout and materials before deciding on the layout in the final render. The progression of the shaders is also shown in these progress photos.
